Brenden Nel...the man on the inside
Brenden Nel would never describe himself as
someone who tolerates beer. He loves the stuff, in all shapes and sizes and
finds it mildly ironic that his profession – as SuperSport.com’s Rugby Editor,
often goes hand in hand with the amber brew.
Brenden has been writing about the sport he loves
since 1996, shunning advances from the world of Accounting to choose a job
where he travels and watches sport full time, giving his opinion often when not
in print, with a Lager in hand. Before SuperSport, he worked for the
Citizen, Pretoria News and Media24 and was in 2009 awarded the SAB Sports News
Journalist of the year award. He has also worked for several international
titles, including the Independent, Daily Mail and Guardian in London, the
Sydney Morning Herald, South China Morning Post, New Zealand Herald and even
the Fiji Times. In his free time he has dabbled with radio, and also
commentated for SuperSport at local and international rugby matches.
While a sports nut, Brenden feels his love for beer
makes him a perfect candidate for the Castle Tavern Tour. “Beer is so much more
than just a drink. Its an occasion, a friend who is always there on a match day
or when the game is discussed. There’s nothing more satisfying than to braai
with your mates over a few beers.”
