Day 2, it's a wrap

Day two dawned on us as we realised we were a lot more eager to meet Munich than Munich was to meet us. Why? Well it was a Sunday for starters, and after the night before where Bayern lost the biggest game of their lives, well, the local folks hadn’t awakened just yet.

A walking tour of the city was planned, and while we did get some exercise, quick negotiations turned that into a few stops to ensure we had tried every single German beer. There was a lot these locals were hiding it seemed.

While others were heartedly scurrying away their breakfast, we tucked into some WeissBier (Wheat beer) before taking in some of the sights that Munich had to offer.  The river surfing was a treat, eliciting conversations of some of our own and their surfboards, although we’re sure they were just as good with a fishing rod…

Anyhow, after a quick lunch we needed to sort some admin out. A fines meeting was held, and those who had transgressed the tour code of conduct – not in a major way it must be said – were told to pay the penalty.

It lightened the mood somewhat, as some who thought they could get away with their ways were quickly hauled in. Friends know what their friends’ faults are it seems, but over a beer they can be sorted out with ease.

The afternoon was one of “leisure” according to our guide Ramon. And while some decided to head to some of Munich’s sights, the majority decided that the local HofbrauHaus was in order. It wasn’t long before the tight-lipped German hosts didn’t know what to do with these guys, not sure whether the refrains of Shosholoza, the Charles Glass Anthem or Nkosi ‘Sikelel iAfrika were mild or not.

A word or two later with the bar staff and it seems they thought we were Chelsea supporters, and fearing reprisals were a bit worried. We raised our glasses and assured them we were not from that part of the world and continued our day out.

Back to the hotel to freshen up and back to Hofbrauhaus, where the festivities continued late into the night. Munich was now a part of us, and we were enjoying every minute of it…
